Cannabis
In the interest of public health, alcohol and tobacco are regulated across the country by a mix of federal, state and local laws and ordinances. Cannabis should be treated the same way.
If you are not an adult, you should not be able to purchase it. If you inhale or consume it, it must be done responsibly. If you have been cognitively impaired, it is illegal for you to drive a vehicle on public roadways or operate heavy machinery or equipment. Public consumption should be enforced the same way as “open container” laws. Toxicity levels should be regulated the same way as alcohol with limits for beer, wine and hard alcohol.
My views of cannabis have evolved considerably since Covid. Prior to that, my stance was that cannabis is a gateway drug that will lead to a life of dependence on harder and harder drugs. However, the actions of Big Pharma during Covid removed my blinders.
During Covid, we were told not to pursue things like Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, CoQ10 and other natural remedies over government mandated protocols like Remdesivir and Big Pharma’s experimental vaccine. This was a HUGE lie and it made me wonder “What other lies have we been told?”
California and Colorado legalized cannabis use nearly a decade ago, despite existing Federal regulations, and suddenly there were CBD products available everywhere. My mom used CBD gummies to cope with the emotional strain of my father passing. It was the only way she could get some sleep, and it worked! I’ve talked with veterans about the calming effects they experienced versus the psychotic effects of the pain meds and pills they were pumped full of at the Veterans Administration.
Can people get addicted to cannabis? Yes. Can people get addicted to alcohol? Yes. The cornerstone of our Republic is Liberty (the right to choose). It is the basis for our elections, our economy and our healthcare and it is cemented in place by “personal responsibility”. You have the right to choose. Choose wisely. My job as a legislator would be to make sure a choice exists.
